Dear friends,
When I first started this journey, I titled it The Downshift, because I was navigating and reflecting about the transition to part-time work to care for and homeschool my children. Over time, it became clear that my reflections were never oriented around that single transition. Life is so much more than simply slowing the pace of work—it’s about living with intention, embracing the complexities of faith, parenting, work, and neurodivergence, and finding joy in the midst of it all.
This small corner of the internet has grown into a place where I reflect on the joys and challenges of every area of our life—on faith and motherhood, on balancing work, homeschooling, and caregiving, on culture and language, and so much more. It’s a space to explore and share my experiences as an ADHD and autistic mom raising neurodivergent kids in a world that doesn’t always feel designed for us.
With this in mind, I’ve decided it’s time for a name that better reflects this journey and its evolution.
Why "Neurodivergent Grace"?
This new title holds deep meaning for me. As someone who is multiply neurodivergent, my experiences and reflections are shaped by a this perspective, and so is my approach to parenting and faith. My faith is my anchor, and grace is critical to navigating both the joys and complexities of our life. My hope is that “Neurodivergent Grace” better captures the beauty and challenges of this journey, grounded in the belief that even in life’s messiness, God’s grace is always present.
What’s Staying the Same?
While the name is changing, the heart of this space remains the same. You can still expect honest reflections and conversations on a variety of topics. I will continue to share and explore in the way that I have been. This new title simply allows me to frame these conversations in a way that feels truer to who I am and the journey I’m on.
What’s Next?
I’ll continue to update the look and feel of this space to align with the new title. I’m also excited to dive deeper into topics I’ve touched on before and explore new ones that reflect my evolving perspective.
This is a small but growing community, and I’m so grateful to all of you! Your support, encouragement, and conversations mean so much to me. And I never would have expected to form new friendships and community in the way that I have.
And as this space evolves, I hope this continues to feel like a space of honesty, encouragement, and connection. Here’s to this next chapter of reflection, growth, and grace.
With love,
Sunita
Bits & Bobs
Books, Lately | It’s been a couple of months since I’ve shared what I’m reading. Still very much enjoying middle grades/YA fiction. I was particularly delighted by Peter Brown’s The Wild Robot, and am currently reading the sequel. Hoping to see the movie soon. Speaking of books that are movies, I reread and then we went as a family to see the movie adaptation of Barbara Robinson’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I enjoyed it very much, and maybe even cried a little. Recently, we also read a few of the Bailey School Kids books by Debbie Dadey & Marcia Jones. These were another throwback to my childhood. I can’t remember if I mentioned The Someday Birds by Sally J. Pla, but another stunning book of hers that you should read if you haven’t. If you’re on Goodreads, I’d love to connect.
Free Advent & Christmas Devotional | I decided to celebrate my birthday by creating this resource for neurodiverse families. It is the product of what I can only describe as deep hyperfocus and enthusiasm for both the liturgical year and advocating for my family and other image-bearers of God. Each includes reflections and suggested activities and designed to be simple and flexible so that we can honor each of our loved ones’ capacity and needs. I’ve also created a bonus guide for grownups with some more information about declarative language and some thoughts about disability in the Bible. The first day of Advent this year is December 1. You can get the download here. (It’ll redirect to your download after you submit the form.)
Other Life Updates | I had a birthday! I am looking forward to what 37 holds, and I’m hoping it’s more writing, more family connection, and more rest. Today is also my anniversary - somehow it’s been 9 years since these two kids decided we should throw a massive, multi-day party and invite all of our friends. I’m grateful for every minute of it.
I have a lot of other things I’d like to share and reflect about, so hopefully that’ll be in your inbox soon. Again, thanks for being here, friends.
Until next time. 👋
Happy birthday, happy anniversary, happy new newsletter name! It feels so natural, and I hope it serves you well in this new chapter of writing!
